We want to be clear about our role: Tetra is not an accredited testing laboratory and does not issue test certificates — keeping our verification independent of the lab that performs the analysis.

What Is Toy Safety Testing?

Toy safety testing is the process of verifying that a toy meets the mechanical, physical, flammability, and chemical safety requirements set by the regulations of the market where it will be sold. The major frameworks are EN 71 (the European toy safety standard, required for CE marking), ASTM F963 (the US toy safety standard), and CPSIA (the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which mandates third-party testing of children's products by a CPSC-accepted laboratory). Different toy types and age grades trigger different tests — for example small-parts and choking-hazard checks for products intended for young children, sharp-edge and sharp-point tests, flammability tests, and chemical tests for restricted substances such as lead, phthalates, and migratable heavy metals.

Coordinate Accredited Laboratory Testing

We help you identify the tests your toys require for each destination market and age grade, draw and submit representative samples, and arrange the analysis with an accredited, CPSC-accepted or EU-notified laboratory. Because we are independent of the lab, our role is to manage the process and verify the outcome, not to produce the result.

Witness Physical and Mechanical Checks On-Site

During an on-site pre-shipment inspection, our inspectors perform and witness the mechanical and physical checks that can be assessed at the factory — small parts, sharp edges and points, seams and assembly integrity, and labeling and age-grade warnings — and verify that the production units match the samples that were lab-tested.

Verify Certificates and Documentation

We check that test reports, the Children's Product Certificate (CPC) for the US market, CE documentation for Europe, and required tracking labels and warnings are present, valid, and correctly matched to your products — the documentation customs and retailers will demand.
